Cowboy Magazine - Summer 1996

Born to be a Cowboy
by R.W. Hampton

On R.W. Hampton's previous albums, most or all of the songs have been his own original work because, in his words, "I felt [the] fine old songs had been recorded by the best and done as well as they could be done."  But, after being offered this chance to produce an album of the old classics, he modified his thinking and began to consider that perhaps he, being a working cowboy, could contribute something new to these beloved old standards.
Besides Hampton's fine singing, this album succeeds because it was produced by Texan Rich O'Brien, one of the finest musicians out there, and one of only a very few who understand how cowboy and western music should sound.  And O'Brien has brought in other heavyweights to back Hampton up, those being Joel McKenzie, Mark Abbott, Greg Hardy, Tom Morrell, Rick Solomon, Bob Myers, Randy Elmore, Danny Levin, Janie Levene, Don Edwards, Donnie McDuff, and Carrolyn Moebius.
You will play this one more than lots of others in your collection.
